On the evening of February 2, 2023, Veteran Retreats Foundation hosted the Bastogne Reunion. The night brought together the Soldiers and Airmen of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) "Screaming Eagles" who survived the unprecedented attack carried out by a fellow American soldier on March 23, 2003, during the opening days of Operation Iraqi Freedom. For many, it was the first time they had seen one another since that night twenty years earlier. The evening was timed to the anniversary of their deployment to Iraq and was part of a multi-day reunion in Nashville and at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where they had been stationed. It gave these men a place to honor the brothers they lost, share what they had carried for two decades, and begin healing together.
